Presentation
Gretchen Johnston has been connected to the arts from a very young age when she used to read to her brothers and play out her own reality scenarios with friends for hours. If you're a Seattleite you might even recognize her from her days at Pikes Market in Seattle WA where she sold her original pottery.
She’s received recognition for her art gallery Clay Occasions, six year organization of Seattle Fringe Theater Festival, her play-write titled Cases, and her advocacy for the development of community and professional art opportunities.
Currently she is ALC’s Treasurer. She is also a ceramic artist and is at LCS and Mudlarks on a regular basis. She is also a writer. Today, she shared yet another side of herself as a poet.

Timeline for voting is as follows:
October 6th - announce the upcoming election and hand out the flyer.
October 20th - deadline for candidate intentions to run.contact a Board member or email artistsoflakechapala@gmail.com to state your intentions or if you have any other questions.
October 20th - deadline to submit candidate Bio’s for the Nov. 3rd introduction. Submit to artistsoflakechapala@gmail.com
November 3rd - introduction of candidates at the membership meeting and via email
November 10th - open elections
November 20th - meet and greet at the 3rd Thursday dinner
November 24th - close election.
December 1st - membership meeting BoD is introduced to the membership via meeting and email.
Jan 1st the board is active and takes on their roles.
Website
Vonn New reported that the website https://artistsoflakechapala.org is continuously being updated. Any members who wish to have a profile page, please email artistsoflakechapala@gmail.com, and Vonn will contact you with further instructions. This is a complimentary benefit of ALC membership. You will get two URL’s one in English and one in Spanish, that you can use to promote your art. EAch profile includes a link to your bio and your portfolio. So far, 12 people have set up their profile.
Migration Project
This is an ad hoc committee envisioning a multidisciplinary art event centered on the theme of Migration, including different arts across mediums and cultures. The Migration Project is intended to be an artistic way to explore various types of Migration. While it can be a charged topic, the focus is to create a healthier way to engage more deeply into the topic. Our next meeting will be at Gretchen’s house on Oct 22nd at 4:00pm. Anyone interested in getting involved, please send an email to artistsoflakechapala@gmail.com, and the address will be sent to you.
Volunteering
Our volunteers really stepped up for the recent art market. We had vendor and customer greeters, general assistance, parking and loading assistance, and even two photographers. Also, let's not forget that the board members are all volunteers and worked hard to make this happen. A very special thank you to Elena and Claudia who set the foundation for our new location and followed up daily with the CCAR staff. Thank you to everyone else who made it a great experience. Remember volunteering is a way to make friends and have fun!
ALC is a 100% volunteer-run organization. We welcome your help! Especially with this season’s Art Market. We need people to help with load-in, translation, greeters, distributing flyers, and much more. There is also a need for a clean up crew. Art Market
Our first Art Market of the new season was a great success at el Centro para la Cultura y los Artes de la Ribera (CCAR). All spaces were sold, and we created a list of interested vendors for next month. Space is limited and a new map is being created. Participating artists will receive an email with all the necessary information about arrival, setup, and other details. We are looking forward to another successful event.
Further clarification was provided.
People were happy with the tacos. Issues with the drinks provided will be resolved before the next art market.
All art must be original. Board members will walk around to review art and verify that it is original.
All food must be prepared by the participant. Also, people providing services do not qualify to participate.
There are two nonprofits participating, and they include original art.
In the future, there will be a WhatsApp group set up to facilitate better communications, including any concerns or requests for more information. The intent is to ensure everyone is heard and respected. Communications will be available in English and Spanish.
Membership
Barbara reported that as of this date there are now 148 ALC members. The art market has been a good source of new members.
54 Renewal letters were sent out to those with September and October expiration dates. 31 members renewed in September.
Treasurer
Gretchen reported that $21,700p came in for September; $11,400p from dues and $10,300p from show fees. ($500p show fees prepaid in August)
Total September expenditures $12,950p . ($11,060p art market and $1,840 for refreshments for lecture event.)
September ending balance $72,787.

Gail reminded everyone to visit and follow our Facebook page for the latest info https://www.facebook.com/share/1XDfccFZZY/. There was a suggestion to “Follow” and there was a question about whether there may be a way to get notifications when new things are posted. There was no clear answer on that.
Anne asked that if you have photos please reach out to Gail to have them posted. She also encouraged everyone to share the link to our Facebook page with friends, especially for upcoming events.
There was some confusion about which Facebook group is for ALC. Anne shared to look for the Katrina image as it is what distinguishes ALC’s page.

October 29 Día de los Muertos, Build an Ofrenda - LCS Grounds. Help ALC build an ofrenda (alter), or build your own. This is a culturally rich event. There will be a zoom meeting set up with more details.

Additional Announcements
Multiple art markets in November: ALC, American Legion (focused on Christmas gifts), and the Racquet Club. There will be cross publicity. Because of this, ALC exhibitors will be asked to prepay for November to avoid no shows.
Art Walk 2026 - Sign up to be an artist stop. It will be 600 pesos for an individual to join. For three people together it will be 1,000. Jill Flyer lives in the area. Let her know if you want to share a spot with her. The deadline to sign up is October 15th.
Hunter Johnson, the president of LCS, is seeking bilingual adults to assist with a youth photography group. They’re also seeking donations of cameras that allow you to adjust the aperture and f-stop settings. If you're a bilingual photographer, they’d love to have you join! No fancy photography skills are required, and you don’t need to be completely fluent in Spanish or English. If you're interested in supporting local teens in exploring photography, contact Hunter at hunter@hunterjohnson.us or send a text to 760-567-3317. Exceptional talen has come out of this program. Thanks for considering it!

Gail Early shared that Gabriele who teaches paper mache is moving and one of her students is looking for a new class.
Stephanie Schneiderman shared that there will be a Meet Up on Friday. (Location???)
Jill Flyer shared that she will be teaching a photography class. The focus will be sharing when to use an iPhone camera and when it is better to use a Digital camera. There will be 5 classes on Wednesday mornings. The fee is 650 pesos.
Claudia Essenburg Shared that when you post a photo on your Facebook page, add @artistsoflakechapala. She will send an email with more details. Claudia also reminded everyone that there are ads in the Guadalajara Reporter, Lakeside (English & Spanish) and to share with your friends.

Presentación
Gretchen Johnston ha estado vinculada al arte desde muy pequeña, cuando leía a sus hermanos y representaba sus propias realidades con amigos durante horas. Si eres de Seattle, quizás incluso la reconozcas de sus días en el Mercado Pikes de Seattle, Washington, donde vendía su cerámica original.
Ha recibido reconocimiento por su galería de arte Clay Occasions, la organización durante seis años del Festival de Teatro Fringe de Seattle, su obra de teatro titulada Cases y su defensa del desarrollo de oportunidades artísticas comunitarias y profesionales.
Actualmente es tesorera de ALC. También es ceramista y asiste regularmente a LCS y Mudlarks. Además, es escritora. Hoy, compartió otra faceta de sí misma como poeta.

Proyecto Migración
Este es un comité ad hoc que visualiza un evento artístico multidisciplinario centrado en el tema de la migración, que incluye diferentes artes de distintos medios y culturas. El Proyecto Migración busca ser una forma artística de explorar diversos tipos de migración. Si bien puede ser un tema complejo, el objetivo es crear una forma más saludable de profundizar en él. Nuestra próxima reunión será en casa de Gretchen el 22 de octubre a las 16:00 h. Voluntariado
Nuestros voluntarios realmente dieron un paso al frente en el reciente Mercado de Arte. Contamos con personal de recepción para vendedores y clientes, asistencia general, asistencia con el estacionamiento y la carga, e incluso dos fotógrafos. Además, no olvidemos que todos los miembros de la junta directiva son voluntarios y trabajaron arduamente para que esto fuera posible. Un agradecimiento muy especial a Elena y Claudia, quienes sentaron las bases de nuestra nueva ubicación y dieron seguimiento diario al personal de CCAR. Gracias a todos los demás que hicieron de esta una experiencia maravillosa. ¡Recuerden que el voluntariado es una forma de hacer amigos y divertirse!

Mercado de Arte
Nuestro primer Mercado de Arte de la nueva temporada fue todo un éxito en el Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera (CCAR). Se agotaron todos los espacios y creamos una lista de vendedores interesados para el próximo mes. El cupo es limitado y estamos creando un nuevo mapa. Los artistas participantes recibirán un correo electrónico con toda la información necesaria sobre la llegada, el montaje y otros detalles. Esperamos que este evento sea un éxito.
Se brindaron más aclaraciones.
- Los asistentes quedaron satisfechos con los tacos. Los problemas con las bebidas se resolverán antes del próximo mercado de arte.
-Todas las obras de arte deben ser originales. Los miembros de la junta recorrerán el lugar para revisar las obras y verificar su originalidad.
-Toda la comida debe ser preparada por el participante. Asimismo, quienes presten servicios no califican para participar.
-Participan dos organizaciones sin fines de lucro que incluyen arte original.
-En el futuro, se creará un grupo de WhatsApp para facilitar la comunicación, incluyendo cualquier inquietud o solicitud de más información. El objetivo es garantizar que todos sean escuchados y respetados. Las comunicaciones estarán disponibles en inglés y español.
Membresía
Barbara informó que, a la fecha, el ALC cuenta con 148 miembros. El mercado del arte ha sido una buena fuente de nuevos miembros.
Se enviaron 54 cartas de renovación a quienes tenían fecha de vencimiento en septiembre y octubre. 31 miembros renovaron en septiembre.

Múltiples mercados de arte en noviembre: ALC, American Legion (centrado en regalos navideños) y el Racquet Club. Habrá publicidad cruzada. Por ello, se solicita a los expositores de ALC que paguen por adelantado para noviembre y así evitar inasistencias.
