Hunter Johnson

Fine art photographer

Hunter Johnson is an accomplished, award-winning fine art photographer

showing regularly in galleries and museums across the US, Mexico, and

Europe with images in a number of private collections. His photography

comes out of his training and work as an architect and as a sociologist; both

create a combined vision of how individuals and society interact with our built

and natural environments, an ecology of our culture. Hunter made his first trip

to Mexico while still a student and continues to love capturing his adopted

home. Hunter was awarded the prestigious Licentiate distinction of the Royal

Photographic Society in the United Kingdom in July of 2021.

Photography is often a solo activity, and Hunter enjoys working with other

artists and photographers to share knowledge and support the arts. These

include the Artists of Lake Chapala, Palm Springs Art Museum Artists Council,

Fugawi Photography, and the Palm Springs Art Commission. He served as

an official photographer for the Feria Maestros del Artes for three years and

beginning in 2023 he has been a leader for the Programa Fotografia Juvanil

sharing his love of photography with local teenagers.

In addition to his wandering street photography, he has produced a number of

cohesive series of 15-20 images exploring various subjects…Injuries of Time,

Architectural Minimalism, Ajijic at Night and, Noir Rhapsody.

Describing his work, Hunter says: As an artist, I approach the world as a

flâneur, looking for images that are intuitive and of the moment…if my

photographs were words, I would like them to be haikus.
