Leadership Transition

Realignment of Officer and Board Position.

Anne McFarland has resigned in order to go back to the US for 1 year to help with a new grandbaby. Anne will remain a member of the Board as the representative of the Bylaws committee and will participate remotely.
Vonn New will be the new President and remain the website manager
Kat O’Sullivan will be the new Vice-President and acting Secretary until the position is filled.
Jennie Bergerson has joined the board as the Social Media Administrator and is supported by a team that includes Kathy Cody and Evan Ellis-Raymer.

Presentation

Hunter Johnson - ALC exclusive Book Club forming

This is an opportunity to read and discuss books about art with other ALC members. The club would meet once a month, either somewhere at LCS or at a local restaurant. We would be limited to 15-20 members with the expectation that 10 or 12 would likely be able to participate on any given day. The suggested schedule is mid- to late-afternoon (3:30 or 4:00) and will last an hour, allowing for a sufficient discussion.

Each member would be responsible for choosing a book for a month and leading the discussion. Books would be limited to ones available on Amazon, preferably as ebook and/or paperback. If we can create a reading list in the next few months, it gives us time to get a paperback and to read ahead for those without an ebook reader.

Books could be either nonfiction about creativity or the art world or fiction with the main theme based on art or an artist. A list of possible books are included below to show the kinds of books that might be available and to jump-start thoughts on selecting a book. FMI hunter@hunterjohnson.us

Project Update - Doggie Fashion Show

Claudia Essenburg reported for the ad hoc committee on their progress organizing this event including: securing a date and venue, engaging sponsors and beneficiaries, and outlining the format.

Name for the event will be “Strut Your Mutt”.

Waiting for confirmation that event will be held at LCS. Tentative date is October 25th.

Will also include dog-related art and art will be for sale.

Looking for sponsors (e.g. vets, rescue organizations, shops that cater to dogs).

Lucky Dog will have dogs available for adoption. Goal is to have 5 dogs adopted.

Invitation from LCS - Children’s Art Program

LCS is seeking guest teachers to share their art techniques with the children's art program.

Program Details:

Target Audience: Children ages 4 to 16. Bilingual English and Spanish. (If the guest teacher does not speak both languages, I am always present to help translate.)
Format: The last Saturday of each month we have a different guest teacher, the session lasts two hours (10 am to 12 noon). All materials are provided, as well as posters and social media promotion. Guest teachers are paid $600 mx pesos for the session.
Focus: Open to all mediums—painting, sculpture, textiles, or mixed media. Must be appropriate for the age range 4 to 16, or the teacher must specify that age range for their technique.

We would love to discuss how your specific style and skills could fit into our upcoming calendar, we currently have June, August, September, October, November and December open to schedule classes. If you are interested, reach out to educorp@lcsac.org.

Survey Results - Key Takeaways

Art Market is important to most, followed by meetups and other enrichment activities
A good portion are unable to participate in ALC events and activities during the workday. Many expressed that they are not retired. We should consider more activities during times when working people can participate.
There seems to be interest in some workshops about making art, selling/pricing art, and social media.
Several people asked that we keep these meetings to 1 hours, so I’m keeping my comments brief.

March’s Art Market felt alive from the moment the doors opened—artists creating, shoppers exploring, and a steady buzz of energy carrying the day. At the heart of it all were the volunteers whose time, care, and teamwork made everything run with ease. Volunteers are the reason our community feels warm, organized, and welcoming. Every setup, every question answered, every small moment of help added up to an experience people will remember. Your contributions mattered deeply, and the success of this market reflects your commitment.

There will be an added component to this last Art Market of the season. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the market. Prizes will be donated art.

ALC is currently advertising the Ojo, Guadalajara Reporter, and Laguna/Lakeside. ALC is included in the calendar sections as well. There are also occasional articles highlighting ALC. Word of mouth remains the most effective way to spread the word about what's happening at ALC.

Jennie Bergerson - Is a painter and retired music and technology teacher with extensive experience with social media and computers. She will be leading the social media team.
Kathy Cody - Is a singer-songwriter and will be highlighting individual artists on our Facebook page.

Presentación

Hunter Johnson - Formación de un Club de Lectura exclusivo de ALC

Esta es una oportunidad para leer y discutir libros sobre arte con otros miembros de ALC. El club se reuniría una vez al mes, ya sea en algún lugar de LCS o en un restaurante local. Estaríamos limitados a 15-20 miembros, con la expectativa de que probablemente 10 o 12 puedan participar en cualquier día. El horario sugerido es a media o última hora de la tarde (3:30 o 4:00) y durará una hora, permitiendo una discusión suficiente.

El Mercado de Arte es importante para la mayoría, seguido por los encuentros y otras actividades de enriquecimiento.
Una buena parte no puede participar en eventos y actividades de ALC durante la jornada laboral. Muchos expresaron que no están jubilados. Deberíamos considerar más actividades en horarios accesibles para quienes trabajan.
Parece haber interés en algunos talleres sobre creación artística, venta/precios de arte y redes sociales.
Varias personas pidieron que mantengamos estas reuniones en 1 hora, así que mantengo mis comentarios breves.

Mercado de Arte – Elena Valdivia

El Mercado de Arte de marzo se sintió lleno de vida desde el momento en que se abrieron las puertas: artistas creando, compradores explorando y una energía constante que acompañó todo el día. En el corazón de todo estuvieron los voluntarios, cuyo tiempo, cuidado y trabajo en equipo hicieron que todo funcionara con facilidad. Los voluntarios son la razón por la que nuestra comunidad se siente cálida, organizada y acogedora. Cada montaje, cada pregunta respondida, cada pequeño momento de ayuda se sumó a una experiencia que la gente recordará. Sus contribuciones fueron profundamente importantes, y el éxito de este mercado refleja su compromiso.
